8th Grade End-of-Year Activities

Mark your calendars for the 8th grade activities this year. We will have a Spring Dance on April 20th from 7pm-9pm and the Carnival & Slide Show on May 23rd during the school day. We’re also working on several 8th grade spirit nights in March and April. If you’d like to be involved with any of the planning, contact Heather Galloway at HeatherGalloway@comcast.net for the next meeting time. Otherwise, stay tuned for more details!

In the meantime, we need you to go ahead and find that perfect baby picture right now (anything from age 5 and under). Please email the picture to HeatherGalloway@comcast.net or bring your physical picture into the front office as soon as possible. Please indicate your student’s first and last name and homeroom teacher (either in the email or written on the back of the picture).
Please note: This picture, along with the student’s yearbook photo, will be used in the slideshow and may be pressed to a permanent disc for distribution to students.

Counseling Corner

Emotions in the middle

Moody, private, self-conscious… If this sounds like your tween, you’re note alone. At this age, his body and emotions are changing rapidly. Here are ways to help him cope.

Managing Moods. Physical growth and worry about friends, sports, and schoolwork can cause moodiness. Let your child know you are available to talk. A quiet statement, such as “I remember what it feels like not to be asked to join a team,” can invite him to open up about what’s bothering him.
Finding privacy. It’s natural for your middle grader to want some time for himself. He might close his bedroom door or walk outside to take a phone call, for example. Show him that you respect his growing need for privacy by giving him space.
Fitting in. May middle graders feel self-conscious. Being a part of a group of people who share his interests can help your youngster focus on his strengths and feel more confident. Encourage him to participate in at least one activity, perhaps basketball, student government, or math club.

Important Notice Regarding Progress Reports and Report Cards:

We are going paperless! Please see the attached parent letter to find out more about our move to online progress reports and report cards. You will find directions for accessing your students’ progress reports and report cards via ParentVue. Alternately, if you do not have access to the internet, you may contact your child’s counselor to receive a paper copy by request. Thank you for supporting us in our efforts to reduce our paper waste.

Car Pool Rules

For the safety of all the children, please do not stop to pick up your student in the afternoon until your car is inside the blue painted lines. Also, if you would prefer to park your car, we ask that you meet your child at the crosswalk and walk with them back to your car.

Early Check-Out Procedures

Please help us to maximize your students learning experience by minimizing classroom interruptions. We ask that if your child needs to leave school early, please SEND a note with him/her to school. Your child should take the note to the Attendance Office where he/she will be given an early dismissal pass. That way, your child will be waiting for you in the Attendance Office when you arrive. Your help with student check-out will be greatly appreciated! Due to verification we cannot accept dismissals over the phone.

Parents, please remember that you need to stop by the front office to sign in as a visitor anytime that you are in the building. This applies to the mornings before the 8:50 homeroom bell as well as after school.
This is for the safety of all the students and staff in the building.

Whether you need notebooks and paper or mints and locker mirrors, we have lots to offer in the school store. You can also buy your spirit wear here! Please visit http://palmer.ptsamail.com/school-store/ to check out all the items and prices. We plan to be open every morning from 8:40-9:10, so come by and check things out.

Help Wanted for Biscuit Sales
The PTSA would like to bring back Chick-fil-A biscuits on Thursday mornings. We need at least 5 adults willing to volunteer (one person per week). Volunteers would need to pick up the biscuits from Chick-fil-A on Chastain Road at 7:30 AM, sell them in front of the school between 8:00-8:50 AM and then return the bags back to the store by 9:00 AM. If you are interested, please email Heather Galloway at heathergalloway@comcast.net.
This is a fabulous way for the PTSA to raise money.
