Palmer’s Talent Show

Come one, come all to the greatest show on North Booth Road–the annual Palmer Talent Show! There will be a wide variety of amazing student acts and maybe, just maybe, there might be a special surprise act. The show is one-night only:
Thursday, February 1st starting at 7:00pm
Tickets are just $5 and go on sale in the school store (8:40am-9:10am) starting January 16th.

Read at Chalker

Students interested in reading children’s books to students at Chalker on Friday, March 2nd, please see Mrs. Wickline to pick up an application in the Learning Commons. All applications and forms are due by Thursday, February 1st. This is a fun opportunity to walk to the elementary school and brighten a child’s day with the love of reading.


8th Grade News

The Pebblebrook Performing Arts visit that we missed due to our snowy days last week has been rescheduled for this upcoming Tuesday January 30, 2018 during connections. Please sign up with Mrs. Holland if you have not already. Pebblebrook’s auditions will now take place on March 12th.

On the morning of February 7th, all 8th grade students will be participating in a field trip to visit their zoned feeder high school (Kell or North Cobb). Permission slips were distributed to all 8th grade students in homeroom on January 5th. Your student must return a signed permission slip to his or her homeroom teacher in order to participate. Students who do not return a permission slip will have to remain at Palmer on February 7th and will not be allowed to participate. If your student has not turned in a signed permission slip yet to their homeroom teacher, please make sure they do so ASAP.

Also, save the date—Kell High School’s Rising 9th Grade Parent Night will be on February 8th at 6 pm at Kell. North Cobb High School’s Rising 9th Grade Parent Night will be on Thursday, March 29th at 6 pm at North Cobb.

Destiny’s Daughters of Promise

Destiny’s Daughters of Promise (DDP) is a mentor and leadership program for middle and high school girls that meets after school on Wednesdays at Palmer. They are currently accepting applications for the 2017-2018 school year. Program activities are grounded in leadership development and basic like skills that serve to help teen girls discover their strengths, potential and leadership abilities. A $25 registration fee is required. To learn more about the program, visit www.ddpgirls.org. Please remember any time you child is absent they need to have an excuse note from either the parent or a doctor. This is for all absences, even if the absence is unexcused (i.e.: vacation)

Counseling Corner

CONGRATULATIONS TO PALMER MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELING DEPARTMENT!!!!
Palmer’s counseling program has become a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) by the American School Counseling Association. The RAMP designation is awarded to school for aligning with the criteria in the ACSA National Model, committing to delivering a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program and an exemplary educational environment. Palmer will be recognized nationwide at the annual ACSA conference in July 2018. Way to go Mrs. Holland and Mrs. Truluck!!!

January Intramurals – Soccer and Basketball

Intramurals meets Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (Student Choice Day).
School doors open at approximately 8:00 and will close at 8:10.
Students will need to bring a change of clothes (PE clothes) to participate.
Bring your Parent to Intramurals Day is January 26, 2018.


Early Check-Out Procedures

Please help us to maximize your students learning experience by minimizing classroom interruptions. We ask that if your child needs to leave school early, please SEND a note with him/her to school. Your child should take the note to the Attendance Office where he/she will be given an early dismissal pass. That way, your child will be waiting for you in the Attendance Office when you arrive. Your help with student check-out will be greatly appreciated! Due to verification we cannot accept dismissals over the phone.


Parents, please remember that you need to stop by the front office to sign in as a visitor anytime that you are in the building. This applies to the mornings before the 8:50 homeroom bell as well as after school.
This is for the safety of all the students and staff in the building.

Help Wanted for Biscuit Sales

The PTSA would like to bring back Chick-fil-A biscuits on Thursday mornings. We need at least 5 adults willing to volunteer (one person per week). Volunteers would need to pick up the biscuits from Chick-fil-A on Chastain Road at 7:30 AM, sell them in front of the school between 8:00-8:50 AM and then return the bags back to the store by 9:00 AM. If you are interested, please email Heather Galloway at heathergalloway@comcast.net.
This is a fabulous way for the PTSA to raise money.
